JUNIOR TALENT WORKSHOP #3

On Saturday 10th September, Bronwyn Zheng took part in her 3r dworkshop as part of Swimming Victoria's Junior Talent team member.Swimmers under took a tough testing session of 10 x 100M Freestyle @1:40 Best Average. Athletes will be tested again in acouple of weeks to see how their fitness has improved. Following the pool session, swimmers undertook a session with Victorian Institute of Sport's physio(Andrew Cameron) who educated the athletes on activation before training and the importance of completing the activation with intention and proper technique. The day finished off with a call with one of Australia's most successful swimmers - Michael Klim. Michael talked the athletes through what his swimming journey was like and making the most of the current opportunities they had in front of them. Here is Bronwyn's reflection of the day:
  1. What is the importance of activation before swimming training? Doing activation before swimming means warming up your muscles before getting into the pool, reducing thechances of injuries that you might get while swimming. Activated muscles and core also means that youn can move through the water more effectively.
  2. What is one thing you can work on in or out of the pool to prepare you for the next round of testing? One thing that I can work on before the next round of testing is making my Underwater work stronger and more consistent.
  3. WhatisonethingyougotoutofMichaelKlim’stalk? Michael Klim told us about his swimming career, and how important setting goals are. One thing that I got out of Michael Klim’s talk is that yes, our goal is definitely important, but it is the process we need to focus on. By enjoying the process, we will be able to achieve our goal better.

Congratulations to Kelvin for  scoring 10 points for making the finals in the Men's Multi-Class 50m Butterfly & 50m Backstroke. Great effort to Andrew who swam at his first State Championship Meet... and at an Open level! Results of hard work was shown by Brady for coming close to achieving National Age Qualifying times. Round of applause to all 3 boys!

nuna summer lc meet

Amazing effort to our Junior and State Team who competed at the Nuna Summer LC Meet on 27th February 2022. Every swimmer achieved new PBs and we had already qualified State team swimmers improve on their current times leading into the Championships in a week and a half's time. Good on all swimmers for expanding outside of their comfort zones and trying a range of events. Great results to finish February on!

2022 VICTORIAN SPrint CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 2022 Victorian Sprint Championships were on held on 15 - 16th Jan 2022. We had a team of 9 swimmers compete at this meet. Well done to Lucas and Kelvin for swimming at their first State Championship competition. Congratulations to Bronwyn for placing 2nd in the Girls 12 Year-Old 50m Butterfly, and to Kelvin for scoring 18 points for the club in the Multi-Class events.
This was a great experience for all swimmers coming into the 2022 competitive season, after long Covid 19 lockdown. Keep training hard and good luck for future meets!
